Kamala’s First Solo Interview An Entire Word-Salad Bar

After dragging her feet for nearly two months, Kamala Harris finally gave her first solo interview since elbowing Joe Biden out of the presidential race. On Friday, she sat down with a local ABC News affiliate in Philadelphia for a whole ten minutes of what can only be described as the softest of softball questions. Conveniently, the reporter has a reputation for swooping in when Democrat candidates need a PR boost. Predictably, the questions weren’t exactly hard-hitting. But the real kicker? Even with such easy questions, Harris still couldn’t come up with coherent answers.

Take this one, for example: “Talk about bringing down prices and making life more affordable for people. What are one or two specific things you have in mind for that?” Now, this should have been a breeze for any candidate—just lay out a couple of concrete ideas, right? Well, not for Harris. Instead of giving an actual answer, she launched into a meandering speech about her childhood. She mentioned growing up middle class, talked about how proud people were of their lawns, and rambled on about American dignity. Meanwhile, anyone struggling to pay for groceries likely couldn’t care less about her upbringing or how neat her neighbor’s yard was.

The question was practically begging her to look competent. Instead, we got more of the same from Harris—a lot of words with very little substance. She even kept going, talking about her vague concept of an “opportunity economy.” At one point, she threw out phrases like “investing in areas that need work” and focusing on “dreams and aspirations.” But here’s the problem: there wasn’t a single concrete policy proposal in her entire response. Just how exactly are these dreams and aspirations supposed to lower inflation or make life more affordable?

This kind of political fluff is nothing new from Harris. If anything, it’s a return to form after her more rehearsed but equally shallow debate performance. She’s well-practiced in talking in circles while saying absolutely nothing. At one point, she was even asked what makes her different from Joe Biden—a total softball if there ever was one. But, shockingly, she didn’t have an answer for that either. This is the person who’s supposed to be distinguishing herself as the next leader, and she couldn’t even do that.

Let’s not pretend this was some minor slip-up in an otherwise brilliant interview. It was only ten minutes long, and most of it was empty talking points and pleasantries. If you’ve seen a few clips, you’ve pretty much seen the whole thing. Sure, Harris might have been well-rehearsed for the debate, but this interview revealed who she really is—an entitled politician who coasts on rehearsed lines and platitudes. It’s hard to imagine anyone watching this performance and thinking she’s ready for the presidency.
