Another Kamala Faceplant, This Time Over the Iran Attack on Israel

On Tuesday, Iran fired hundreds of missiles at Israel, targeting 10 million civilians, a direct and brutal escalation in an already volatile region. And what did we get from Vice President Kamala Harris in response? A brief cameo appearance at the White House, where she scurried into the Situation Room, supposedly to confer with the national security team. She followed this with a public statement that was meant to project strength and leadership—except it did anything but. If anything, her appearance only highlighted how woefully unprepared and weak she truly is when it comes to international crises. For someone who is supposedly sitting in the same room as President Biden, directing the response to an international attack, she looked like she had no clue what was going on.

She began her statement with “I’m clear-eyed,” which was apparently meant to sound resolute. Instead, it came off like she was trying to convince herself more than the American people. Clear-eyed? What does that even mean in this context? It sounded like a forced phrase someone told her to say, as she spent most of the time looking down at her notes like a nervous high schooler giving a book report. For someone who’s been supposedly in the thick of it, her delivery showed nothing but a lack of preparedness and a complete absence of genuine leadership. If Harris was trying to project confidence, she failed spectacularly.

She went on to say, “Earlier today, I was in the Situation Room with President Biden and our national security team as we monitored the attack in real-time.” That was her attempt at sounding in command. But her shaky tone and stiff posture gave away the fact that she was anything but in control. If anything, she looked like she had wandered into the Situation Room by accident and was just there to nod along. Her demeanor screamed passive observer, not a leader actively managing the response to an international crisis. It was almost painful to watch. If she wasn’t in the middle of a presidential campaign, would she have even made a statement? Probably not. This whole performance was clearly aimed at giving her an image boost, trying to look presidential while failing miserably.

Then came the part where she made sure to cling to President Biden’s decisions like a lifeline. “I fully support President Biden’s order for the US military to shoot down Iranian missiles targeting Israel.” Really? You support Biden’s decision? Shocking. It’s almost as if she’s trying to make sure we all know she’s in the room but still has no actual role in the decision-making process. This was supposed to be her chance to prove she’s capable of handling a real crisis, and instead, she’s playing second fiddle, letting everyone else make the calls while she just nods along for the photo op.

The rest of her statement followed the typical script we’ve heard a thousand times. “My commitment to the security of Israel is unwavering,” she said, but the delivery felt hollow. Watching her stumble through the statement, you can’t help but question if she even understands the gravity of the situation. She had a golden opportunity to show some real leadership during a critical moment on the world stage. But instead, she collapsed under the weight of the situation, proving once again that when it comes to actual substance, she’s out of her league.

Kamala Harris had the perfect chance to step up and show she could lead during a time of crisis. Instead, she showed just how out of her depth she really is—nervous, unsure, and clinging to Biden’s coattails for dear life. In a moment when the world needed strength and clarity, all we got was another empty performance from a politician who’s become far too reliant on scripted talking points and campaign platitudes.
