The Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Georgia Democratic Party have launched a lawsuit to challenge the election integrity regulations in Georgia, with Kamala Harris’s campaign cheering them on from the sidelines. The State Election Board, now fortified with officials who have Donald Trump’s endorsement, recently passed new rules that demand the total number of votes cast to be reconciled with the total number of voters before any election results can be certified. These measures are intended to bolster election security, but Democrats seem less than thrilled about the idea.
This lawsuit is just one part of a broader Democratic strategy to roll back election safeguards, even as they repeatedly claim there’s no significant voter fraud to worry about in the United States. Their legal maneuvering aims to ensure that election officials are forced to certify results by a strict deadline in November 2024, regardless of any discrepancies that might arise. According to the Democrats, certification is merely a procedural formality, and any concerns about irregularities can be dealt with after the fact—because nothing says “trustworthy elections” like ironing out the problems once the results are set in stone.
Not stopping there, the Democrats are also pushing to remove the Trump-aligned officials from the State Election Board entirely, arguing that these guardians of election integrity are the real problem, not the potential for fraud. It’s almost as if the Democrats are more interested in preserving their own power than in ensuring that every vote is counted accurately.
Interestingly, Democrats in Georgia may find an unexpected ally in Republican Governor Brian Kemp, who, along with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, has shown an uncanny reluctance to investigate claims of voter fraud and concerns about voting machine vulnerabilities since the 2020 election. Governor Kemp is reportedly seeking “guidance” from Attorney General Christopher Carr on how to legally remove these pro-election integrity officials, raising questions about just where his loyalties lie.
