First, there’s the Biden-Harris administration’s open border policies, which have effectively invited around 10 million illegal border crossers into the U.S. since they took office. Thanks to these sanctuary laws, New York cops are prohibited from working with ICE, even when they know suspects are in the country illegally. And it gets worse. Police sources say that word has spread in the migrant shelters about the city’s lax bail policies, meaning these folks know they’ll be back on the streets in no time if they get caught. The officers out there dealing with this daily nightmare are the ones who truly understand the magnitude of the problem—the one that the White House conveniently ignores. They see it all, day in and day out.
One officer from Midtown Manhattan laid it out: “I would say about 75% of the arrests in Midtown Manhattan are migrants, mostly for robberies, assaults, domestic incidents, and selling counterfeit items.” He admitted that the figure is an estimate, but said it’s usually pretty clear when someone’s a migrant, especially if they’re arrested in a shelter or give a shelter address.
Another cop pointed out that excluding the petty thefts at drugstores, migrants are responsible for “easily” 75% of arrests, particularly targeting high-end retailers like Lululemon and Sunglass Hut. These aren’t just your run-of-the-mill shoplifters—they’re going for the big scores. The same officer mentioned that migrants are behind “most” of the pickpocketing and chain snatches that the NYPD is dealing with these days.
