Former President Barack Obama allegedly threatened to use the 25th Amendment to push Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race, according to investigative journalist Seymour Hersh.
Hersh, relying on insider information, describes a chaotic scenario within the White House that culminated in Biden stepping down.
“I discussed the situation with a senior official in Washington who helped me create a detailed account of a White House in total disarray,” Hersh reports.
Hersh also mentioned that Obama contacted Biden three days after a medical emergency in Las Vegas, where law enforcement swiftly arranged Biden’s transport to the University hospital.
It is believed that Biden experienced a neurological episode before being urgently flown back to Delaware.
Sources told Hersh that Obama informed Biden during a July 20th call that he had Kamala Harris’s consent to invoke the 25th Amendment, declaring Biden unfit for the presidency.
This came in the wake of Biden’s poor debate performance, which starkly highlighted his mental decline.
“Obama called Biden after breakfast (on July 20) and said, ‘Here’s the deal. We have Kamala’s approval to invoke the 25th Amendment,’” Hersh reports.
The call reportedly had the support of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Hakeem Jeffries, according to Hersh.
Interestingly, Obama did not immediately endorse Harris, instead opting for a primary-like process to choose a new nominee.
“Obama had an agenda and wanted to ensure control over who would be elected,” Hersh writes, describing the situation as a coup.
However, a report from the New York Post indicates that Obama doesn’t believe Harris can defeat Donald Trump, favoring Arizona Senator Mark Kelly’s chances instead.
Hersh also notes, “It was agreed that if Harris did not gain traction in the polls, other options would be considered, including an open convention,” showing that the Democratic leadership feels Harris must perform well to secure the nomination.
