Since November, three out of four polls have consistently shown a higher percentage of “Never Biden” voters compared to “Never Trump” voters. This shift in voter sentiment coincides with a growing favorability toward Trump’s presidency following Biden’s assumption of office, a trend that is now reflected in the polling numbers.
The “Never Trump” movement originated in 2015 during Trump’s ascent to the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Many conservatives within this movement pledged to never support Trump, citing various ideological and personal reasons. However, the landscape has evolved, with a significant portion of Republican primary voters rallying behind former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for the 2024 presidential race. Despite Trump securing the Republican nomination, Haley continues to garner support, as evidenced by her recent strong showing in Maryland’s primary with 21.3% of the vote.
Recent polls also indicate Trump’s lead over Biden in head-to-head matchups, with a five-point advantage when considering only the two major candidates and a three-point lead when including third-party candidates. Both Trump and Biden have scheduled debates on June 27 hosted by CNN and on Sept. 10 hosted by ABC, with additional debates likely to follow.
